An Interesting Marriage Factoid

This from Brian Wilson, lead author of the latest State of Our Unions report from the National Marriage Project:
Husbands are significantly less happy in their marriages, and more likely to contemplate divorce, when their wives take the lead in breadwinning.
People like to feel important, I guess.

This has a chilling sound--and just as much so (at least to my ear) if you were to reverse the genders.

It is interesting to me in as much as it suggests a deep investment in "work" as the primary locus of meaning in one's life.

Yes, we have trouble finding meaning outside of work, and, even more narrowly, outside of earning money.
