There is a hint of a new timetable for Afghanistan in this story, in which the Pentagon and President Karzai seem to have agreed that "Afghanistan should be ready to handle its own security by the year 2014." Of course Obama promised to start withdrawing US forces next summer, so something will have to give.
Meanwhile, a Taliban spokesman recently denied that they have suffered any defeats.
