Moral Atheism

Louise Antony makes the argument that moral atheists are more moral than religious believers, using Plato, Hobbes, and other bits of the philosophical tradition.
If “good” is to have normative force, it must be something that we can understand independently of what is commanded by a powerful omnipresent being.
To me it comes down to this question: if you only do the right thing because you think God is watching you and judging you, are you really very good?
