More Evidence that Life Gets Better after 50

The amount of stress that Americans report experiencing declines "precipitously" after 50. This graph shows the fraction of respondents in a very large study who report experiencing stress "daily," but the same pattern holds for other measures of stress.

I wonder how much this might coincide with no longer having children in the home? I would think that by the time most folks hit fifty, their kids are off at college or settling down to start their own families.

Perhaps related to having very stressed children at home.

perhaps it takes that long for most of us to feel (not just carelessly agree with) that the rat race is indeed a bunch of rats engaged in somewhat pointless effort, and that breaking free of it is indeed possible.
